What is the Economic Survey?
The Economic Survey is an annual report presented by the Ministry of Finance that reviews the state of the Indian economy during the previous financial year. The survey also examines government policies and reforms, providing a comprehensive picture of the economy's health.
What is Halwa Ceremony?
The Halwa Ceremony is a unique and longstanding tradition of the Finance Ministry, observed every year as the Union Budget nears completion. It marks the beginning of the final phase of Budget preparations and is a moment to recognize the hard work of the officials who play a key role in shaping the nation’s finances.
During the ceremony, the Finance Minister thanks the officers and staff involved, making it a gesture of appreciation for their dedication. After the event, a “lock-in period” comes into effect, during which those officials are confined to the North Block and are not allowed to share any Budget-related information outside. This practice ensures strict confidentiality, safeguarding the details of the Budget until it is officially presented in Parliament.
